World Explorer or World Adventure?

It was a good weekend. The best part about it was getting to talk to many of my friends in Waco. It was great to hear how they were doing and what they have been up to. I guess more then anything, it was nice to know that I still have friends out there because finding a genuine community to be part of in ABQ has been next to impossible. Part of that problem stems from our church involvement. We've yet to find a church that we can really feel part of or one that is remotely similiar to our own theological premises. So what does one do? I guess we've had to rethink our commitment to the church and its role in the world. Yes i want to affirm to the church, i just don't want to go to one here in ABQ. We're going because we believe the Church is the Bride of Christ, not because we wakeup excited to go. That's sad and maybe wrong, but that's the way it is at the moment, though we're ready for that to change.

Today I created the classes I am going to teach this summer for first - third graders. The first is entitled "World Adventure," or "World Explorer." Any thoughts on which is better? We're going to travel the globe and examine culture, beliefs, food, games and even traditional greetings. It should be fun. The second class will be entitled "Games and Outdoor Rec." We're going to play teambuilding games, traditional sports, hiking, and whatever else i can come up with. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, about 40 5th graders ran up to me and called me prince Felipe. Turns out they saw a picture of the prince in their spanish class and they went nuts saying it looked just like me. What do you think?

one armed wonder

So as some have noted its been a while since i have actually posted on my blog. Well, In my defense it is kinda hard to type with one hand and when you are under the influence of some funky meds. Shoulder surgery went well, and liz has been great. I can't move my arm much, so she's been tying my shoes, cooking, cleaning, laundy and about everything else. As nice as this might sound - i really hate it. I hate for her to have to do everything. But alas, i think that stage is behind me, I eveve washed dishes tonight. Crazy i know.

We just spent the weekend at a Lodge in Northern NM at Angel Fire. Just picture Colorado and that's what it looked like. There were mountains, evergreen trees, snow and a rustic cabin. We pretty much spent the time reading, napping, and watching DVD's. Our favorite DVD was the Constant Gardener. It's a flick about drug companies doing anything it takes to get their medicine approved for world-wide distrubtion. It's a spy, "who-done it" thriller. I highly recommend it.

I also found out that I'm going to teach a class this summer!! It'll be a 2nd -3rd grade class, though at this moment the topic is uncertain. The staff mentioned everything from rockets to science to P.E. I'm ready
