is it over yet?

Wow - its been a crazy week in our lives. For those of you who don't know, Liz's grandfather (kay's dad) went to be with his creator this past week. Liz and I had to cut our Florida trip short to make it back to ABQ, so we could drive to Tx. Though we are sad because he is missed, we are happy for him - for this is what his whole life was working towards. So many people had such kind words to say about the way he lived his life and the way he served his God. I hope that when I get to the end of my life, people will be gratefull to of known me and that I may in some small way have blessed their life.

Today (Dec 27th) we just got back to ABQ when mike calls. Turns out, all those grass fires that have been popping up all over TX happened to pop up 8 feet from Mike and Kay's house. They lost 90% of their pasture land, lots of trees, fences and almost the house. Mike was fighting the fire with a water hose and as the fire is right next to the house, Mike calls verbally out in a prayer that the wind would change. As he prays the winds shift immediatly and the house is saved. Some people in Abeline lost thier lives due to the grassfires, i feel very fortunate to have both mike and the house. Also, Kay's parents and sister have a ranch in Baird Texas and several fires are closing in on them, they've been cutting back grass and wetting everything to prepare for the worst, fortunatly at the moment everything seems to be okay.

Also, I'm going into have shoulder surgery at 10am, so pray for me. It's been a long two weeks....

Give me a break

What’s the deal with mega-churches canceling services on Christmas day? They say it needs to be a "family day" so some are even handing out a DVD to their congregations to watch on x-mas morning (oh yeah I said it - X-mas). Give me a freaking break. I have several thoughts about this. 1st - what does one do if he or she doesn't have a family? I mean there are people who are single and can't go home for Christmas. But then, i guess these people don't belong at "family churches" (which in my mind is about as bad as a "white" or "black" or ANY kind of other church that segregates in title or practice). 2nd - yet again this is an example of mega-churches doing whatever it takes to make the people happy. Some have called it a "theology-light" church. Maybe one of these days we can concentrate on Truth - and not what makes us happy. 3rd - what do most people do on x-mas morning - they give and open gifts, and more gifts. Let's face it, x-mas in our society is no longer about the Kingdom of God come close in the person of Christ - but in gifts – closing church only propagates that line of thought. 4th (and lastly) this is yet another example of individualism run-amuck in our society. This is a day when the body of Christ should come together to celebrate and proclaim the Lord's first coming as well as his second, and not hide in their individual homes worshiping gifts, tree and family time.

I may be wrong - but I doubt it.
